An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a useful tool for organizations to manage their environmental aspects in order minimize their environmental impacts. Ecodesign is a systematic approach that considers environmental aspects in design and development with the aim of reducing adverse environmental impacts throughout the life cycle of a product. An EMS should consider the design and development process with ecodesign applied to new and existing products, including modifying processes where required to deliver product. ISO 14006:2020 "Environmental management systems - guidelines for incorporating ecodesign" helps organizations to embed ecodesign principles within their EMS to advance circular economy. Follow us and our colleagues at Circular Economy by ISO to learn more about how your organization can support the transition to circular economy. #CircularEconomy #EcoDesign #TrustStandards #EMS #PlasticPollution

Verifiability of green claims and ISO standard For those of you who wonder if there are ISO standards to cope with the EU proposal for stricter verifibability requirements for green claims, we recommend the report that you can download from the link announcing this event. #truststandards #geenclaims #verifiability
Senior researcher | Chairman CEN/TC 473 Circular economy | Convener ISO/TC 207/Environmental management/Communication
EU's Green Claims Directive to stop greenwash At today's 2025 spring conference for Klimatledande Processindustri (Climate leading Process Industry) I presented our* report Verifiable Sustainability Claims. It provides an overview of the European regulations addressing verifiability as well as some of the most common methods addressed when the process industry presents their sustainability strengths and benefits. These include massbalance, different types of life cycle assessment, different sustainability comparisons and references to climate change. The report introduces which international trade and standard agreements should be considered to ensure these claims are verifiable, as well as provides key essential aspects to stress when communicating such claims. The report can be downloaded from here: https://lnkd.in/d6ipsWBg *The report was developed in close cooperation with process industry companies, and is authored and compiled by: Raul Carlson Tatiana Nevzorova

✅ verified green claim Stop greenwash with a checklist. The international standard ISO 14033 provides guidelines for the systematic and methodical acquisition and review of quantitative environmental information and data. It is applicabable to all standards in the ISO 14000 series, such as LCA, footprints, greenhouse gas reports or any other data intended for green or sustainability related performance information or claims. The standard also provides guidelines on how to establish accuracy, verifiability and reliability for any intended use, such as product design, business model performance, or sustainable finance performance reporting. ISO 14033 is designed particularly to support both open transparency and transparency through third party verification and certification. This standard is applicable to all organizations, regardless of their size, type, location, structure, activities, products, level of development and whether or not they have an environmental management system in place. 🌱 We’ve officially launched our project under the Global Environment Facility Challenge Program for Adaptation Innovation. Together with UNIDO, we’re harnessing the power of ISO standards to support developing countries in achieving their climate adaptation commitments. Over the past three days, we worked in Geneva closely with our members from Costa Rica (INTECO - Instituto de Normas Técnicas de Costa Rica), Colombia (ICONTEC), and Trinidad & Tobago (Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards) in a pivotal workshop to co-design the implementation of this initiative in their countries. A huge thank you to the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) and TC207 (ISO Environmental Management) for their invaluable support in shaping this project! ✅ Why standards for climate adaptation? ISO’s Adaptation to Climate Change standards (ISO 14090 series) provide a structured framework for planning, implementing, and monitoring adaptation initiatives. They help identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and optimize investments in climate resilience—turning best practices into action on the ground. By bridging global standards with local needs, we’re ensuring that international expertise translates into meaningful, real-world impact for communities most vulnerable to climate change. This is just the beginning—stay tuned as we turn collaboration into action! 🌱 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/ejg4uDUh #ClimateAction #StandardsForSustainability #GEF #ClimateAdaptation #DevelopingCountries #PartnershipsForImpact

The ISO Circular economy standards are to be revised. What input can you give to the revision? I think that the step-in standard on business models could be more specific, and I think parts of the standard on terminology and principles could be moved to business models, and we need to handle values more bravely in the measurement and assessment standard. What do you think? Provide input to the survey.
🌏 🌎 🌍Circular Economy survey is launched💪 👋 👍Feedbacks from the field to improve texts will be appreciated🌍 🌎 🌏 Feel free to spread out the link to answer! https://lnkd.in/e4RwWGh6 ISO - International Organization for Standardization, ISO Environmental Management, Small Business Standards (SBS), WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development, UNIDO, IFC - International Finance Corporation, CDP, African Circular Economy Network (ACEN), African Circular Business Alliance (ACBA), World Circular Economy Forum WCEF, World Resources Forum, World Resources Institute, Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Confederation of Indian Industry, Chatham House, Nordic Circular Hotspot, EFRAG, ECOS, Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), ANEC, UNECE: Working Party on Regulatory Cooperation and Standardization Policies (WP.6)

Everything is in principle recyclable But how to know if an actual product can in fact be recycled? Material recycling is based on different and well-specified, advanced and costly technologies. They require that you first can pre-sort your used product so that later in the recycling system the suitable specialized chemical, mechanical or thermal recycling processing can be applied. If you cannot find such pre-sorting for your coffee cup, for the singing, glittering, electric Happy Birthday card that you would like to buy for your friend, or for your bluetooth head phones, then they are not in fact recyclable for you. They might end up in landfill or be incinerated, or just be part of the dirt in an existing recycling system. The standard ISO 14021 states the following: " 7.7.2 Qualifications If collection or drop-off facilities for the purpose of recycling the product or packaging are not conveniently available to a reasonable proportion of purchasers, potential purchasers and users of the product in the area where the product is sold, then the following shall apply. a) A qualified claim of recyclability shall be used. b) The qualified claim shall adequately convey the limited availability of collection facilities. c) Generalized qualifications, such as “Recyclable where facilities exist”, which do not convey the limited availability of collection facilities are not adequate. " The ISO 14020 series of standards specify requirements for environmental claims. Nothings's gonna stop us now We have all seen these great advertisements; fix the climate by buying our reusable bag, fix the waste problem by buying this automobile with a dashboard made out of recycled plastic, or buy this single use box that is biodegradable. Buying it would make the environmental movement unstoppable. But it is greenwash. A product may be great, it may be based on the most environmentally beneficial materials and technologies, yet it will not save the world. It may be a good buy anyway. It just need to be sold with an honest message. Nothing can stop an environmentally conscious consumer when presented with fact-based, comparable and clear environmental claims, ecolabels and declarations. The standard ISO 14020 establishes principles and specifies general requirements that are applicable to all types of product-related environmental statements and environmental statement programmes. Environmental statements result from environmental statement programmes and include self-declared environmental claims, ecolabels, environmental product declarations (EPDs) and footprint communications. The standard is intended to be used in conjunction with other standards in the ISO 14020 family. Those other standards contain additional terms and definitions, principles and requirements that are relevant to their specific scopes: ISO 14020:2022 - Environmental statements and programmes for products — Principles and general requirements ISO 14021:2016 - Environmental labels and declarations — Self-declared environmental claims (Type II environmental labelling) ISO 14024:2018 - Environmental labels and declarations — Type I environmental labelling — Principles and procedures ISO 14025:2006 - Environmental labels and declarations — Type III environmental declarations — Principles and procedures ISO 14027:2017 - Environmental labels and declarations — Principles, requirements and guidelines for communication of footprint information #truststandards #stopgreenwash
