🔊 𝐖𝐑𝐅25 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐒𝐌 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 Artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) is a critical source of #employment and economic activity, supporting millions of people worldwide. However, access to #finance remains one of the sector’s most significant challenges. As a result, 85% of artisanal miners operate informally, limiting their ability to access non-predatory capital, invest in responsible practices, and integrate into formal economies. A new Alternative Digital Financial Marketplace (ADFM) has been developed to bridge this funding gap. This platform connects ASM operators with investors, buyers, and service providers, enhancing transparency and traceability while reducing financial risks. Curious to know how it works, which objectives does it have and how it can support livelihoods and responsible sourcing from the ASM sector? Join this #WRF25 Loudspeaker event organised by The Blended Capital Group, Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) and Capitals Hub Canada! 🗓 February 27, 2025 | 🕒 3:00-4:00 PM CET Speakers: 🔵 Rob Karpati 🔵 Luc Lapointe 🔵 Blessing Hungwe 🔵 John Howchin 🔵 Marcin Piersiak The session will be moderated by WRFs' Emanuele Di Francesco. 👉 Register here: https://lnkd.in/epDytvkB #finance #ASM

📢𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 We are excited to introduce another new project we are involved in - DiliCHANCE: 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐮𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬. The European Union sees due diligence as essential to securing critical raw materials, supporting the green and digital transition, and promoting sustainable practices that reduce societal and environmental harm. Yet, many companies struggle to implement effective due diligence frameworks, as existing tools often fail to meet legal requirements or drive lasting positive change. The DiliCHANCE project aims to bridge this gap by developing a one-stop platform to support companies in navigating regulatory requirements and responsible sourcing. Over the next three years, the project will: ▶️ Raise awareness and knowledge of human rights and environmental due diligence (HREDD) among corporate actors ▶️ Identify gaps in policy and industry implementation ▶️ Enhance due diligence operations with improved tools and new solutions ▶️ Foster multi-stakeholder engagement and capacity building 👉 Subscribe to the DiliCHANCE Newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dZi74sSG 👉 Learn more about the project: https://dilichance.eu/ WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) #ResponsibleSourcing #DueDiligence #SustainableMining #SupplyChains

𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 The devastating #Brumadinho dam collapse in Brazil in 2019, which tragically claimed 272 lives, highlighted the urgent need for safer #tailings management in the #mining industry. In response, the Global Tailings Management Institute (GTMI) has been launched in January 2025 to ensure better safety and accountability for tailings facilities worldwide. Founded by ICMM, UN Environment Programme and Principles for Responsible Investment, the GTMI will oversee the independent assessment and certification of tailings facilities against the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM). As Independent Chair of the Global Tailings Review (GTR), our President Bruno Oberle played a key role in developing the GISTM, which is designed to prevent future disasters and protect both #people and the #environment. A responsible mining industry must be a safe mining industry - towards the goal of 'zero harm'! 👉 About the Institute: https://thegtmi.org/ 👉About the Standard: https://lnkd.in/dpkjh4i

𝐑𝐞-𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚'𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐰 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 Yesterday, we had the pleasure of co-hosting wIth DMT GROUP a workshop at Investing in African Mining Indaba 2025 in Cape Town, as part of the AfricaMaVal side event. Our session on #secondary raw materials sparked insightful discussions on the potential of #ewaste and other secondary resources in strengthening Africa's value chains and advancing responsible sourcing. Our very own Adrien Specker set the stage with an overview of e-waste generation in Africa and South Africa, emphasizing the vast untapped value in proper collection and recycling. Other expert contributions included: 🔵 Dr. Dominic Vooght on how to optimise reverse logistics networks for end-of-life lithium-ion battery recycling; 🔵 Pravashen Naidoo on sustainable recycling solutions and #circulareconomy strategies to support job creation and environmental sustainability; 🔵 Steffen Schröder on scaling up industrial e-waste recycling, diversifying raw materials, and mitigating supply chain vulnerabilities in volatile markets. The session reinforced that secondary raw materials are not just a byproduct but a strategic opportunity to strengthen value chains, secure resource supply, and enhance #ESG compliance and responsible sourcing. #MiningIndaba #AfricaMaVal #SecondaryRawMaterials

Is deep-sea mining really the answer to critical raw materials demand? The seabed is the largest and least explored biome on the planet. Its ecosystems are interconnected with global processes, from #carbon sequestration to #nutrient cycling. Rushing into mining without a full understanding of these systems risks unleashing consequences far beyond local impacts. At this stage, deep-sea mining is a high-stakes gamble that could disrupt not just marine ecosystems but planetary systems. The path forward for deep-sea mining must begin with a science-first approach, ensuring that decisions are grounded in robust research and a clear understanding of the potential impacts. Join the conversation on #deepsea mining at #WRF25! 👉 Submit your abstract by February 7: https://lnkd.in/ekjRKtF2 👉 Become a partner: https://lnkd.in/eCinJAZD
