After you join Google Play Points, you earn points for Google Play purchases made from your enrolled Google Account. You won’t get points for purchases you made before you joined Google Play Points.
The availability, award levels, and multiplier rates of Google Play Points differ by country. This isn't available in all countries.
How to earn points
- Buy apps or games on Google Play.
- Make in-app or in-game purchases and subscriptions through Google Play.
- Buy books with Google Play.
- Tip: You can't redeem Play Credit for books in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, or Spain.
The content that you can buy and earn points from depends on your country.
How points are calculated
To calculate points earned, multiply the item’s price by the base earn rate for your level. The number of points you earn is rounded up or down to the nearest whole number. If you earn below a certain amount based on the applicable region, you may earn zero points.
You only earn points for the price of the item. It doesn’t include any taxes paid.
You may earn more points through promotions. You may earn points at the highest available earn rate on the specified time periods.

For example:
At the Bronze level, you earn one point per $1 USD on all purchases. If you spend $5 USD, you get 5 points.
- When you move up to the Silver level, you earn 1.10 points per $1 USD. If you spend $5 USD, you get 6 points, rounded up from 5.50.
What your points count towards
Earned points count towards both Play Points balance and level progress.
- Play Points balance: Use these points to unlock special items in apps and games or exchange them for Google Play credit. When you use or exchange points, the points are deducted from this balance. Any points you earn expire a year after the last time you earned or used points.
- Level progress: Points you’ve earned in a calendar year count as progress towards the next level. When you use these points, it won’t be deducted from your level progress. After you reach a level, you keep that level until the end of the next calendar year. At the start of each calendar year, your level changes based on how many points you earned the year before.
When you return or cancel a purchase that you earned points on, those points are deducted from your Play Points balance and level progress.
