My heart breaks for those who have been impacted by the LA fires. I wanted to share ways to help from near and far: 1. Donate to Trusted Organizations American Red Cross: Provides shelter, food, and aid to wildfire victims. California Community Foundation’s Wildfire Relief Fund: Supports immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts. Direct Relief: Offers medical supplies and resources to affected areas. Salvation Army: Provides meals, clothing, and other essentials to displaced families. 2. Support Local Food Banks Donate to organizations like the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank or others providing food and supplies to displaced families. 3. Provide Temporary Housing Offer your property through platforms like Airbnb’s Open Homes Program, where hosts can provide free temporary housing to evacuees and first responders. 4. Volunteer Your Time Reach out to organizations like Team Rubicon or Red Cross to assist in disaster relief efforts (e.g., sorting donations, delivering supplies). 5. Donate Supplies Contact local shelters to see what’s needed. Common items include non-perishable food, bottled water, toiletries, blankets, and clothing. 6. Help with Animal Rescue Support groups like the Humane Society of Ventura County or Los Angeles Animal Services that assist with rescuing and sheltering animals displaced by fires. 7. Fundraise or Spread Awareness Organize fundraisers or share verified donation links on social media to raise awareness and encourage others to help. 8. Advocate for Fire Prevention and Climate Action Support legislation and initiatives aimed at reducing wildfire risks, improving forest management, and addressing climate change. 9. Check on Friends and Family Offer personal support to anyone you know in the area. Simple acts of kindness can make a big difference. 10. Avoid Scams Verify the legitimacy of charities before donating. Websites like Charity Navigator or GuideStar can help confirm an organization’s credibility.
