A study from the American Cancer Society showed that cancer rates are rising among young and middle-aged women with breast leading the surge. While rates are rising, we’re also seeing deaths declining thanks to advancements in detections and treatments. The challenging part about this news? Cancer treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery can impact fertility. Yet, people diagnosed with cancer are not having conversations with their doctors about what their fertility options are, including fertility preservation. Recent data from JAMA, Journal of the American Medical Association, showed that half of young adults diagnosed with cancer aren’t told about their fertility preservation options. A cancer diagnosis doesn’t automatically mean infertility, and understanding your options can make all of the difference in your journey. Knowledge is power. Here are the top questions I’d advise you to ask a doctor. #cancer #fertility #fertilitypreservation NPR
