Choose albums to display on your photo frames

You can use Google Photos to display albums in a slideshow on the ambient or idle screen of eligible devices. This includes:

  • Smart TVs
  • Tablets
  • Fridges
  • Select photo frames
  • Google TV
  • Android TV
  • Chromecast
  • Pixel Tablet
  • Nest Hub
  • Nest Hub Max

Tips:

  • This feature isn’t available on all devices or in all countries and regions.
  • Certain photos may not appear, based on their source or how they were captured. For example, some third-party app content and screenshots may be filtered.

Connect your device to your Google Account

During device setup or in the device settings, select Google Photos as the slideshow source.

  1. With your Android device, scan the on-screen QR code.
  2. Select your Google Account.

Tip: If you aren’t already signed in to at least one Google Account, you need to sign in.

  1. Enter the code displayed on your device.
  2. To allow the device access to your Google Account, tap Allow.

Pick albums to display on your device

Manage devices

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the top, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
  3. Tap Google Photos settings and then Apps & devices and then Photo frames.
  4. Next to the albums you want your device to display, tap Add Add.

Tip: Photos may take a few hours before it’s removed from your device’s ambient display when you:

  • Delete a photo
  • Archive a photo
  • Send a photo to Locked Folder

Display people & pets

You can select people and pets to display on your device. A new album is created in Google Photos and new photos of the selected people and pets are automatically added. Learn how to label your face group.

Tip: If you can’t find people or pets:

  • The feature isn’t available in your geographic region.
  • You turned Face Groups off in settings. Learn how to turn on Face Groups.
  • No face groups have been created.
Display Photo frame highlights

Photos automatically curates and updates a “best of” album from your Photos library.

To find photos that’ll appear in Photo frame highlights, search for “Photo frame highlights” in Google Photos. Learn how to search your photos.
Favorites & existing albums

You can choose to display photos you’ve marked as favorite.

Shared albums

You can choose to display photos from any shared album. Learn more about shared albums.

Stop the display of photos on your device

  1. On your Android device, open the Google Photos app Photos.
  2. At the top, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
  3. Tap Photos settings and then Apps & devices and then Photo frames.
  4. Select the device.
  5. At the top, tap More More and then Remove device and then Remove.
