Turn off your Chromebook touchpad

You can turn off your Chromebook touchpad if you don’t want to use it.

  1. At the bottom right, select the time.
  2. Select Settings and then Accessibility and then Cursor & touchpad.
  3. Next to “Disable built-in touchpad,” select the dropdown menu. You can select:
    • Never: The default setting. Your touchpad remains on at all times.
    • Always: Your touchpad remains off in all conditions.
    • When a mouse is connected: Your touchpad is turned off when your mouse is connected to Chromebook.

Tips:

  • When you select “Always,” a confirmation prompt appears. If you don’t confirm within 30 seconds, the touchpad returns to its default setting.
  • To turn on the touchpad, on your keyboard, press the Shift key 5 times.
