A REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK

A #1 New York Times bestseller, Wall Street Journal Best Book of the Year, and soon to be a major motion picture, this unforgettable novel of love and strength in the face of war has enthralled a generation.

With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Powerful, gripping, and insightful. I cannot imagine living through such a time in history. The emotional turmoil this book had me in, but that is Kristin Hannah for you. Even though it is a work of fiction there are very true elements and the realization that life was once like that for people is difficult to think about. The courageous and fearless characters in the story are just heroic. I really enjoyed this book and frankly all of Kristin’s works I have read thus far.

I really enjoyed reading this book. I was swept into it from the first page and found it hard to set the book down to eat or use the bathroom. It is that great of an emotionally well written story. I found that I could relate on a level with the sisters, Vianne and Isabelle and their relationship because I have a sister. I found myself asking what would I do in their shoes and I am kind of glad that I do not need to find out. Grab a copy and read this story for yourself, you won't be disappointed. Just make sure you have a kleenex on hand to capture that tear or two that escapes. I received this book for free from SheSpeaks and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
