I'm really proud of the work my team at Climate Zero and Rewild Agency are doing to prepare Australian businesses to report on climate-related risks and their emissions. Sustainability reporting is about data-driven results, as well as great storytelling. There's always been an intersection between communications and sustainability. RANT Looking at Anaconda Group Pty Ltd Delivery page it completely talked me out of purchasing a medium priced ($1000) bike. The caveats, cover-my-a$$ unfriendly tone is so offputting. Lack of clarity on delivery - "2-5 business days unless we are busy" - was the gist. Oh and if we try to deliver and you don't answer the door (or we can't be bothered getting out of the truck to see if you are home so we'll put a "not at home note" in the letter box) you can collect it from a depot. Which is the one I am ordering it from. Because I can't collect it in person. So it will just sit there? Whats the point? They are basically saying "ring us" to see if we will take care of you after we take care of ourselves. But you can't ring them - no number. And I can't use the form under "Contact Us" as I do not yet have a purchase order or club number. I think I'd rather buy from someone that doesn't do delivery and pay the hundred bucks to have it delivered in a suitable manner. But not #Anaconda. What do you think? Business as normal or poor customer service? UPDATE: I called Anaconda (number not on website but google maps had it) and they blamed Australia Post the bane of all small online businesses. Nightmare!

As a self-confessed Mark Ritson fanbois (yes, yes, I know he swears quite a bit - get over it!), I loved this article from earlier this year relating to pre-testing ads. It just makes sense. It is also btw, what we do at UserTesting. User Research is not just limited to the domain of UX Researchers or Designers. For Marketers, why wouldn't you want to pre-test before you spend huge amounts on creative copy. The difference is that you can get results back from your target audience in hours, not counted in weeks or even months. Hours. And you save soooooo much $$$. You dont have to follow the feedback, but you do need to listen to it. Its a no-brainer. So why do so many CMO's not bother??? One of the most frustrating things about being in the services space is that larger organizations and especially government still use metrics that effectively proxy scale as a metric when shortlisting gets challenging. We had another round this week after pulling a couple of other NZ based businesses together to bid on an NZ govt opportunity - "I had a call from the procurement person to thank us for our response. They said they had a large number of responses and although they could see our Consortium has the capability, the shortlisted vendors have more experience with projects of this nature and size. " Experience very quickly becomes a metric that goes up faster with scale since the business as a whole has done more projects even if the team that will be engaged will always have only a subset of that experience. It further reinforces the chicken and egg problem for businesses trying to grow. I'm not calling out the specific govt department because the issue is systemic rather than this or that procurement. To my mind experience and scale should be treated more like a precondition of "is the business able to deliver" and then differentiation should be on quality and cost-effectiveness of the solution. I'm sure my network has hundreds of stories like this - it's incredibly frustrating. I've spent many hours badgering government officials and it feels like some of the progress we had is going backwards as funding tightens up(despite a preference for large business bids leading to higher total costs in the long run). What do we do about it?

It was an amazing bunch of people joining our Kanban NZ meetup event last night starting with the question "Will AI replace your Agile Coach? Can it even replace a Kanban Coach?", and we could have gone on for another three hours if not more.
