Dear CEO, A trait that seems to exist amongst most CIOs & IT Managers is that they treat the budget process and justification as a gladiator challenge. What this does is that most CIOs and IT Managers believe they have only one major battle in them thus they make sure to get their 5 to 10 year CapEx requirements in one shot. This results in them over specifying systems which leads to a huge cost upfront that usually results in obsolete equipment at the tail end but by then they are fully recovered for another battle or they have moved on to another organization leaving the impending wreckage in the hands of the new hire. The place where this is most prevalent is in the data center infrastructure. Most data centre infrastructure has not seen a single upgrade since they were setup during the battle of 2000 or 2005. Over the same period the offices in general have had at least one if not two makeovers. Ever wondered on the below two proposals in Union Finance budget 2024-25 and their hidden agenda. 1. Reduction in customs duty on gold why will Govt loose heavy revenue? The strategic reason is that SGB bonds will keep maturing in every six months and higher prices will lead to heavy outflow. To save this outflow reduction in prices will help in savings to the RBI/Government at the time of redemption. The amount of loss on customs duty will be much lesser than the savings in redemption amount. 2. Removal of indexation benefit in computation of LTCG The hidden agenda is a measure to control the black money in the real estate transactions. Now there will be a tussle between the buyers to register a higher purchase price in white and the seller to lessen it. Though buyer pays a higher duty on the sale/purchase deed but it helps them in future as it will save a higher tax benefit of 12.5%. Had he paid in black money he would loose in the long run when its being sold and pay a higher LTCG. It in fact cools the real estate sector also. State Governments will also stand to gain in higher revenues. This is a masterstroke in a way on both counts.

It may be noted that "India" has revolutionalised " Digital Transactions" through it"s UPI. Just like " Mutual Fund" investment warning message, there should be caution/ alert/ warning message flagged by Election Commission before any election. It can be like - Issue In Public Interest : "Promise & Commitments of Elected candidates during election campaign are like securities investments, and are subjected to Social, Political, Communal, security & financial risk of your own country and based on historical facts there can be no assurance that all the commitments presented to get your vote will be fulfilled. Think Strategically, Vote Carefully to make sure that your candidate is trustworthy & have little bit of honesty else be ready to waste your paid tax on their allowance & leisure" This is my personal opinion :)

As soon as DPDPA draft rules were out, Cyber AI Commune took an early initiative to get the community together along with Adv. Puneet Bhasin as an expert in the field to run us through same. It was an interactive session wherein various queries of attendees such as roles and responsibilities of stakeholders; how to handle cross geographical scenarios; size of the organizations; false reporting, corelation with GDPR etc. were answered. Checklist for organizations in terms approach to be followed was also presented. Overall, it was insightful session, and every attendee had something to learn and corelate. My take and concerns as an outcome of the personal interpretations of both the DPDPA Act and rules are primarily linked to: Firstly, definition of Personal Data & Secondly, How to identify and prove the breach. Personal Data includes basic details of an individual like name, mobile number, e-mail address, date of birth/age, address/city of residence, preferences etc. These details are shared by an individual (data principal) to multiple companies (data fiduciary) which may be telecom provider; employer; online shopping sites; hotels; hospitals; banks and so on. All this data along with services availed are used by companies to enhance customer experience (using the historic data, demographic details etc). AI models also need this data. The personal data is not only saved in the underlying software’s master's but also in form of transactional records. Clean-up / removal of data post withdrawal of consent is a big concern. Clause of retaining data for research purposes also opens door for misinterpretation and misuse. In case of data breach, proving the primary source of leak is again a challenge as this personal data is with multiple data fiduciaries at the same time. We need to bring in more clarity on personal data inclusion & exclusions; classify data fiduciaries in terms of size, type and volume of data processed; setup process to conduct training and awareness; build a FAQ repository. #CyberAICommune #DPDPAct #DataPrivacy #DataSecurity

What is air-pollution doing in India - a brief summary (links in comments) 1. India is likely to witness over seven-fold rise in lung cancer cases by 2025 compared to a decade ago 2. 20 years ago, the majority of lung cancer patients had a history of smoking. However over past 10-12 years, scenario has completely changed 3. Earlier, out of 10 with lung cancer, eight were smokers and two were non-smokers. Now out of 10, 5 are smokers & 5 are non-smokers 4. In metropolitan areas like Mumbai and Delhi, ongoing construction & infrastructure activities contribute to higher air-pollution & higher lung cancer cases 5. Significant change in age-group - Earlier, lung cancer was common in smokers who would smoke for 30-40 years and people would generally suffer in their 60s & 70s. Now people in the age group of 30 to 40 are being diagnosed with it 6. Vehicle exhaust & fossil fuel emissions have been linked to NSCLC (Non Small Cell Lung Cancer). In general the main pollutants causing lung cancer are : Fine particulate (PM 2.5), SO2 & NO2. These pollutants enter deep into the lungs, pass on to the bloodstream & cause cellular damage & inflammation 7. From 2021 to 2023, avg AQI for India was 151 - indicating unhealthy air quality level. Cities like Delhi have recorded AQIs over 250, indicating severe health risks to all age-groups
