Honoring His Legacy, Advancing His Cause

On January 28, 2025, Retired Dallas Police Department Lieutenant and Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center (DCAC) founder, Bill Walsh, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Bill Walsh was a tireless advocate for child protection and family violence prevention, whose visionary leadership not only transformed the local approach to child protection but also created a safer world for children everywhere.
DCAC was woven into the very fabric of Bill’s family life, including his wife of 52 years, Carole, and their children, Bill and Dianna. Though proud of what the Center accomplished, Bill’s humility remained steadfast: he was quick to credit DCAC’s “guardian angel,” Ruth Collins Sharp Altshuler, along with the countless community members, donors, partners, staff, and supporters who helped build and sustain the center—demonstrating a shared, unwavering commitment to protecting the children of Dallas County.
Bill Walsh was an absolutley amazing guy! What an incredible legacy to leave for our beloved community
A very sad loss for all of us in the CAC field. I fondly remember working with Bill for years as the Dallas CAC and the movement grew. He was a wonderful guy and his work was instrumental in bringing law enforcement into the CAC world.
Through your years of dedicated service, you changed the lives of many. Rest gently, your hard work will continue for many years to come. God Speed cousin💙
I had the honour of learning from Bill during several visits to Dallas whilst a member of Victoria Police. His legacy will live on. Sympathy to his family, loved ones and former colleagues.
Bill made a difference in the lives of so many children and professionals who work in their respective fields of Crimes Against Children. He has left a huge legacy in educating thousands on the CAC subject. I am blessed to have known Bill and worked with him at Crimes. May he rest in peace knowing that he made the World a better and safer place. 💙
I had the privilege of working with Bill on 3 separate assignments. He was the most honorable man I have ever known.
I had the honor of working with Bill as an ICAC Training partner. His quiet passion for protecting children was steadfast, and his love for his family and community at the forefront of his work. Wishing his family peace and the knowledge that Bill’s legacy lives on.
Lt. Walsh always treated CPS workers as highly trained professional investigators, who were an integral part of each case. He always had a smile and usually a bad/dad joke! He had wonderful insight into cases and listened to our case thoughts. He threw great “parking lot” parties at our Swiss Ave. center, brought his grill and cooked hotdogs for us, understanding how important it was for is “decompress” together!
Rest easy, Lt. and thanks for your influence!
What a remarkable man. May we all further the work he dedicated his life to.
An amazing man. A pioneer with a huge heart, creative smarts and the tenacity to make visions come true. His impact in this world was huge. I hope his family knows this.
An honorable man, wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Thank you for making life better for so many. You are greatly missed cousin.
The world has lost a good man. Bill was a guardian and fighter for children. He had a vision of protecting children from abuse. His vision became infectious. Although separated by almost four hours, Bill became a friend, a mentor, and hero to me. I will miss you my friend. Rest easy, we’ll take it from here.
